Live Forever is a concerto for flute and chamber orchestra composed by Philippe Treuille and written for flute virtuoso Daniela Mars, a Trevor James Flutes Artist since 2017, celebrated for her luminous tone and international artistry. Raised across Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and England, Mars brings a global sensibility to the work: a voice shaped by movement, resilience, and cultural multiplicity. Her extraordinary expressive range forms the emotional core of the concerto.
At its heart, Live Forever is a work of remembrance. The concerto honors those who have died in their youth from substance-related struggles and overdose, lives cut short, yet carried forward by the memories and love of those who remain. The music traces a journey from innocence to crisis to transcendence, speaking to the fragility of life and the hope that something endures beyond loss.
The piece arose from a vivid dream experienced by Treuille after the death of a close friend. In the dream, he stood before the cannon monument in the Tribute Gardens in Millbrook, NY, a place associated with public memory and reflection. Yet on the bronze plaque beneath the cannon, instead of the words that appear in the real world, he saw only two: Live Forever.
This moment, simultaneously surreal, elegiac, and filled with longing, became the emotional spark for the concerto. The dream’s inscription became not a literal message, but a plea: that the spirit of the departed might live on in music, community, and remembrance.
As part of First Dimension Foundation’s mission to support art that expands emotional understanding and connects communities, Live Forever stands as a work of compassion, memorial, and hope, an offering to all who have lost someone too soon, and to the resilience of those who continue to carry their light.
